MIRI: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained an order for a six-day remand of a third suspect arrested in connection with false claims concerning a project to supply durian saplings worth RM999,973.50.

The remand period is from today (July 6) until July 12.

The 40-year-old woman, who works with a government agency in Miri, was detained by Miri MACC on Monday (July 5).

Magistrate Leona Dominic Mojiliu meted out the order against the suspect to enable further investigations under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 after granting a remand application by MACC investigation officer, Nur Faidah Roslan.

Section 18 of MACC Act 2009 provides for a fine of five times the value of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, and a maximum jail term of 20 years.

The suspect, clad in an orange shirt, arrived at the Miri Magistrate Court before 9am. She was accompanied by MACC officers.

According to a MACC source, the suspect was believed to have falsified claims on the supply and deliveries of 28,805 Musang King durian saplings in the Lambir Constituency.
