MACC remands two enforcement officers for soliciting bribes

KUCHING: Two enforcement officers have been remanded on suspicion of soliciting a RM10,000 bribe in exchange for not taking action against foreign workers allegedly employed without valid permits.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali granted the remand order at the Kuching Magistrate’s Court today (Sept 5) following a successful application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sarawak.

The male suspects, both in their 30s, will be held for five days until Sept 10.

According to sources, the duo allegedly requested about RM10,000 bribe from a company owner in return for not taking action against some foreign workers suspected of lacking proper documentation.

Both men were arrested between 7 pm and 8.30 pm on Wednesday (Sept 4) at a fast food restaurant in Sri Aman.

The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
