KUCHING: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad has expressed his condolences to the family of prominent businessman and renowned property developer Tan Sri Ting Pek Khiing, who passed away on Friday (Oct 16).

In a letter addressed to Ting’s wife Puan Sri Wong Sui Chuo on Oct 16, Mahathir said he and his wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali were saddened to hear of Ting’s demise.

“It is with sadness and deep regret that Hasmah and I received news of the demise of your beloved husband, Tan Sri Ting Pek Khiing, this afternoon.

“Please accept our heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies for your loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. We pray his soul will rest in peace,” read the letter.

Ting, 75, passed away at his residence at Jalan Song here at 3.30pm on Friday (Oct 16), leaving behind his wife, four children, and 13 grandchildren.

At the moment, no further details are available as the family has requested for privacy.

The late Ting was well-known in the construction industry, with one of his most remarkable achievements being the successful completion of the Sheraton Langkawi Beach Resort within 100 days in 1991.

This feat impressed Mahathir, who was prime minister at the time.
