KUCHING: Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah disagrees that two-time former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad should be the prime minister again.
He said with due respect, his wish is for Dr Mahathir to leave active politics totally and be a statesman for present leaders to seek the latter’s advice and views.
“Dr Mahathir’s days as the number one is over. He might not agree with the leadership style of those after him. But who is he to dictate?
“Each leader has their own strengths and weaknesses. He has got to accept that,” he told New Sarawak Tribune when contacted.
The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice president was asked for opinion on Dr Mahathir’s recent remarks of him willing to resume the post for a third time if there are strong calls for him to helm the post as the prime minister and there are no other suitable candidates.
Abdul Karim further said for Dr Mahathir to helm the prime minister’s post for the third time if there is no other suitable candidate is something which a sensible mind can accept.
“It is a mockery to say there are no suitable candidates from 32 million Malaysians,” he said.
