GEDONG: The Mahkota Dewa Gedong team has earned the title of ‘Raja Sungai’ (King of the River) at the first Gedong Regatta 2023.

During the final round of the 30 Men’s Boat Rowing event, the team competed against five other teams and emerged as the champions.

They were rewarded with the Sarawak Premier’s Cup and received RM15,000 as a cash prize.

The Sinaran Ratu Siska team secured the second position and was awarded RM7,000, while the Madinah Race team came in third place and received RM5,000.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg handed over the prizes to the winners at the Kampung Kanchong Waterfront here yesterday.

The Gedong Regatta 2023, part of the Gedong Festival 2023, was a major highlight of the event.

Later that night, on July 30, Abang Johari, who is also the Gedong assemblyman, officiated at the closing ceremony of the Gedong Festival 2023 at Dewan Datuk Patinggi Ali.

Also present at the ceremony were Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Deputy State Secretary Datuk Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee, Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris, chief political secretary to the Premier and Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, and Ministry of International Trade, Industry, and Investment (MINTRED) advisor Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais.
