MIRI: Host state sailing team achieved a historic milestone by clinching a bronze medal in the Optimist Team Racing event on the third day of the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) held at Marina Bay here today.

According to a report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), this victory marked the first time Sarawak won a medal in sailing since the state began participating in SUKMA .

The team’s head coach, Jamil Ali, expressed immense pride in this achievement, emphasising the significance of securing Sarawak’s first medal in the Team Racing event.

Jamil, who has been coaching the team for eight years, described this accomplishment as his most gratifying personal achievement.

He hopes this victory will inspire the Sarawak team to aim for more medals in the future.
