KUCHING: Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian has advised the people to maintain the culture of ‘gotong-royong’ (mutual assistance).
The Local Government and Housing Minister said the ‘gotong-royong’ spirit was not just about getting jobs done but was also a platform to bring people together.
“We live closer to each other than before, but we know each other less these days.
“If local residents can get together regularly, not only can a lot of local issues be solved but with deeper understanding, a lot more can be achieved,” he said in a Facebook post last Monday (Sept 21).
Sim recently attended ‘gotong-royong’ activities held by the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) and the Housing and Development Commission (HDC) Sarawak at RPR Taman Sri Cahaya Tondong.
“I also took the opportunity to go on around with HDC officers to look at various maintenance issues such as gutters and roads that have not been handed over to the council yet, lights and grass cutting,” he said.
