KUCHING: Integrity is a highly valued trait, and community leaders as well as members of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) have been told to maintain it.

Assistant Transport Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said community leaders, village chiefs and JKKK members played a vital role in ensuring the successful implementation of development projects in their respective areas.

“(As such) integrity must be adopted at all levels of society to fight corruption. In order to be a society with integrity, leaders themselves must practise honesty as a core value,” he said at an integrity programme for Padawan, organised by the Sarawak Integrity Unit (Union) at Kampung Beratan on Monday (Oct 26).

“We do not want the rights of our community to be easily taken advantage of by those who only think about their own personal gains.”

Stressing that community leaders were the eyes and ears of the government, he said they could ensure that the irresponsible people would be taken stern action against by the authorities.

“JKKKs are reminded to utilise the money for community development and practise good financial management to prevent corruption.”
