Majestic Shades Dancer victorious in Borneo Ethnic Creative Dance Festival

BINTULU: Majestic Shades Dancer from Bintulu emerged victorious in the 2023 Borneo Ethnic Creative Dance Festival (EthDance) held at the Sri Kenyalang Hall, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Bintulu Campus.

Led by Fazry Abdullah, the dance group presented a unique performance called ‘Kalong’, which means pattern or carving in the Orang Ulu language.

Badansa Dance Group from UPM Serdang and Bahari Limbai from Sri Rajang College, UPM Bintulu Campus, secured second and third places, respectively.

Champions received a cash prize of RM2,000, along with certificates and trophies. Runners-up received RM1,500, certificates, and trophies, while third-place winners received RM1,000, along with certificates and trophies.

The group also clinched the first prize for Best Costume, Best Musical Arrangement, and Best Choreographer.

Gerini Tari and Tandak Remang secured the second and third prizes for Best Costume, while Badansa Dance Group and Bahari Limbai, claimed the second and third prizes for Best Musical Arrangement.

UPM Bintulu Campus director Prof Dr Shahrul Razid Sarbini presented the prizes.

Participating in the EthDance 2023 Festival were eight dance groups from across Sarawak. The festival was jointly organised by UPM Bintulu Campus and the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, with support from the Sarawak Arts Council.
