SIBU: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) secretary general Priscilla Lau has accused DAP of taking a major U-turn.
Priscilla said from a party that used to be vocal in championing freedom of speech, DAP had asked that the federal government act against Sarawakians who are vocal about their rights.
Priscilla was referring to Lanang MP Alice Lau’s question in Parliament asking how the federal government would deal with those calling for Sarawak’s secession.
In his reply, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the government will not hesitate to invoke the Sedition Act against anyone who seeks or calls for Sarawak’s secession from Malaysia.
Priscilla said in the past DAP championed freedom of expression, but now all they did was ask question and then keep quiet when they got the answer.
“Today DAP is all out to curtail our freedom of speech. The party has made a 180-degree turn,” said Priscilla.
She said PBK, as a legitimate political party, is helping to educate Sarawakians on their rights to voice their opinions and concerns regarding the indiscriminate treatment of Sarawak by Malaya.
“But DAP is curtailing Sarawakians’ right to free expression and speech,” Priscilla added.
