KAPIT: Close to 100 percent of all major development projects planned by the Kapit District Council this year have been implemented.
The projects include the multi-storey car park, proposed Belaga WaterFront Phase I and Phase II projects, proposed Song Waterfront Phase II and Phase III projects and the proposed improvement to Kapit Town Square, for which the tender have already been awarded.
Walikota of Kapit Datuk Philimon Nuing disclosed this at the Kapit District Council (KDC) annual dinner held at a local restaurant here on Tuesday evening.
Elaborating on the council’s Key Performance Index (KPI), he said the only major project that had yet to kick-off the ground was Phase Two of the Kapit Waterfront project.
“However, the tender has been called and currently we are still waiting for the evaluation report from the consultant,” Philimon added.
The annual dinner was organised by the council’s Sports and Recreational Club (KADICO).
Apart from a get-together, the dinner also saw the presentation of certificates of appreciation to KADICO Club members for the term 2016-2018, a farewell gathering for the council’s retired staff Diong Saji, presentation of Excellence Service Awards to staff members.
The dinner also saw the presentation of mementos of appreciation to the board of councillors for the term 2016-2018.
Nuing expressed appreciation to the staff members and councillors for their hard work.
He said the year 2018 had been a special and fruitful year for the council in terms of achievements.
“We are among the few local authorities given a 4-star rating by the federal government for good and exemplary governance,” he said.
This was despite the fact that the Kapit District Council was one of the remotest local authorities in Sarawak, he added.
He attributed the success and many achievements recorded by the council to the high commitment and dedication of the staff members in carrying out their duties.
Later, he announced that Jabang Juntan, who was seconded as the council’s secretary, had his service extended by another two years by the state government.
Describing the decision as most appropriate, he said: “Jabang has performed well during his two years of working with the council and this was proven with the many achievements recorded by the council over the past two years.”
Jabang, in his speech earlier, called on staff members to exercise patience and be more caring in carrying out their duties.
He also urged them to take complaints from the public positively and to try to find effective solutions to the problems at hand.
He was hopeful that by next year the relevant sections, where the majority of the public complaints arose from, could try to improve their delivery services.
On other matters, Jabang congratulated Walikota Nuing on the conferment of his Datukship title.
He also expressed his thankfulness to Katibas assemblyman Datuk Ambrose Blikau Enturan for his generosity to allocate a grant of RM50,000 to the council to help finance the just-concluded Pesta Dabai Song.
Also present were deputy walikota and councillor Lawrence Listin Baling, assistant secretary Kelimbik Sibat, BL Consultant Team members led by Francis Uling, Untang Jaya Sdn Bhd managing director Rheineld Minor Panyau, senior officers of the council and some 130 council staff members and invited guests.
