MIRI: A total of 31 drain covers or steel manhole covers have been reportedly stolen or broken since January until early December this year, which involved a total loss of RM12,000.
Miri mayor Adam Yii has expressed his concerned over the matter.
“If only we have people of better civic mindedness, compassion and empathy, we will have a much better world.
“Majority of the problems in our society are ‘man-made’,” he said,
Yii was responding to a public report on three steel manhole covers that went missing along a row of eatery premises here in Jalan Raja.
The missing covers were noticed on Thursday morning by one of the shop owners who later informed the Miri City Council (MCC).
“I suspect that the theft happened at night,” said the owner who wished to be known as Wong.
She further added that with the drains left uncovered, it has created a hazardous environment for customers who frequent her coffee shop.
