KUCHING: Guests will have the opportunity to catch singer-songwriter from Miri, Sharon Richard performing live at the Lan Berambeh Anak Sarawak 2024 event at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow (Oct 19).

For Sharon, the performance is particularly meaningful as her song ‘Balit’ reflects the struggles faced by Sarawakians living far from home.

Through the event, it would provide Sharon a platform to connect with fellow Sarawakians while celebrating their shared heritage.

Sharon, 25, is making waves in Malaysia’s pop music scene with her heartfelt lyrics and soulful melodies.

“Her latest single, ‘Balit’, captures the struggles, sacrifices, and longing experienced by many young Malaysians living far from home.

“Written in Bahasa Sarawak, the song reflects Sharon’s personal experiences of adjusting to life in Kuala Lumpur, where she faced emotional and financial challenges.

“The song resonates with young Malaysians who, like Sharon, struggle to balance work, studies, and financial responsibilities while being away from their families,” a statement released by the organisers said today.

Meanwhile, Sharon described the song ‘Balit’ is not just about homesickness.

“It’s about the feeling of wanting to return home but being unable to due to financial constraints. It’s something many people can relate to — the struggle of chasing dreams while sacrificing the comforts of home,” she said.

She hoped it will connect with listeners who understand the tension between following their dreams and longing for home.

Growing up in a creative family surrounded by music, art, and dance, Sharon’s passion for music was nurtured from an early age.

After moving to Kuala Lumpur to study Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), her musical journey gained momentum.

In 2022, she joined the popular local band Salammusik, which allowed her to perform at major festivals and develop her stage presence.

She has already captured attention with previous releases such as ‘Tinggalkan’ and ‘Rapuh’.

Her music is characterised by raw emotion and personal storytelling, qualities that set her apart as a rising talent in Malaysia’s music industry.
