SIBU: Mother’s Day is an important celebration but often many miss it as it is not a public holiday, said Dudong Parti Bersatu Sarawak (PSB) Women’s Wing chairperson Kapitan Connie Loh.
She said that it could also be due to the present lifestyle as children were busy with school while parents were burdened with their work and house chores.
“However, just because we don’t have the habit to celebrate it doesn’t mean that the celebration is not important. In fact, the celebration reminds us of the importance of filial piety and greatness of a mother’s love,” she said during a Mother’s Day celebration for single mothers on Tuesday night.
According to Loh, Mother’s Day could be celebrated in many different ways and not necessarily be extravagant or at a high cost.
“A simple home-cooked meal for our mothers, a bouquet of flowers or even a small gift would do to show our appreciation,” she said.
Touching on their celebration for single mothers, she said they deserved the celebration.
“Single mothers have to juggle between work and family. It’s not easy to single-handedly raise a family. Life can be very stressful for them and they need moral support and assistance,” she said.
The branch chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King, who officiated at the function, presented flowers to some 50 single mothers who participated in the celebration.
