MUKAH: Federal Deputy Minister of Health, Lukanisman Awang Sauni has called upon candidates offered contract doctor positions to make Sarawak their first choice for employment.
This plea comes as over 200 individuals out of the 800 offered positions either declined or failed to report for duty.
During a press conference after his visit to Mukah Hospital on yesterday (July 18), Lukanisman highlighted the pressing issue of medical officer and facility shortages in the state.
He urged the candidates involved in the 200-plus group to prioritise taking up job opportunities in Sarawak to address the public’s concern.
“Sarawak has specific requests under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), including the establishment of type three health clinics in nine districts of the state.
“However, fulfilling these requests would involve efforts under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13) and RMK-14, which require time and coordination.”During his visit, he not only observed
the shortage of officers and facilities but also recognised the need for improvements in officer and health worker residences.
Stressing the importance of employee comfort, Lukanisman emphasised that providing a conducive environment was crucial before serving customers.
He also made visits to Kuala Balingian Health Clinic, Balingian Health Clinic, Mukah Community Clinic and Mukah Hospital.
Also present were Sarawak Health Department director Dr Oii Choo Huck, health officer Dr Huzaimah Husin and Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine.
