KUCHING: Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) wants the Sarawak government to ensure that no one in the state, particularly those in the longhouses, are left out from getting essential goods and food supply during the movement control order (MCO).
Its acting secretary-general Lavenia Lawas said many longhouses are facing food shortage, especially essential items, because they can’t go to town.
“Kapit Division should be given serious attention as the majority of the longhouses here are still not connected by road yet.
“They still depend on rivers and to reach them is very time consuming,” she said in a statement yesterday.
She said most rural folk are not planting padi, and gone are the days when they could depend on the jungle as their ‘supermarket’.
She said
forest plantation and logging activities have erased their ‘natural
supermarkets’.
Lavenia added that the state government must
apply the best mechanism in its delivery system to avoid ‘leakage’.
