KUCHING: Technical and vocational education and training (TVET) should be the first choice for those furthering their studies as it is a game changer for the nation.
In stating this, Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said that TVET is the key for the country to achieve a high income developed status based on the latest technology.
He pointed out that Putrajaya allocated RM5.6 billion to TVET, showing the determination of the government to empower this training and attract as many of the young generation as possible to study in TVET institutions.
“The allocation is shared between 13 ministries for them to make TVET courses successful throughout the country,” he said.
He said this after attending the Jejak Madani TVET Politeknik programme at Bandar Baru Samariang here today.
According to him, in the Ministry of Higher Education, institutions such as Politeknik offer various types of diploma and degree courses on top of the community colleges that offer certificates and lifelong learning (PSH) programmes.
“The certifications and programmes, especially, are offered to everyone no matter how old they are. That is why we have a lot of short courses offered to the community.
“With these courses, we have managed to produce a lot of small entrepreneurs for various groups in the community.
“Having said that, I hope that more of our people will take up TVET as their first choice in pursuing their studies,” he said.
