KUCHING: The 2024 Malaysian Government Servants Welfare and Sports Council (Maksak) Rugby 10s will take place in Kelantan from Nov 14 to 17.
Maksak Sarawak secretary Nazrie Sulaiman said the recently held Maksak Sarawak Rugby 10s served as preparation for the national championship in Kelantan.
“We hope that rugby enthusiasts in Sarawak, especially public servants, will continue their efforts. We will strive to provide a platform for them to realise their potential.
“Additionally, there are competitions at the national level, and it doesn’t stop at the state level. Players will be selected for the national competitions to compete there,” he told New Sarawak Tribune recently.
Nazrie also took the opportunity to thank Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) for its support in developing rugby by providing a beautiful venue.“This is the first time
we are hosting rugby in Samarahan using a synthetic field. The field has just been completed, and Unimas has given us permission to use it,” he said.
He noted that the feedback from players and teams has been very positive, as this is one of the best rugby fields in Kuching and Sarawak at the moment.
Nazrie also highlighted the success of the recent rugby event, noting that the responses from the rugby teams were positive.
“We didn’t expect so many teams to participate in each category. Given that the number of rugby enthusiasts among public servants might not be large, we were pleasantly surprised to have up to seven teams participating,” he added.
For the record, the Maksak Sarawak Rugby 10s was held on Oct 5 and 6 at the Unimas synthetic rugby field, gathering seven teams, including Maksak Sibu, Maksak Betong, Maksak Kuching, PDRM, Maksak Samarahan, Bomba and Maksak Miri.
