KUCHING: Maksak Sarawak’s rugby team are determined to take their performance a step further in the 2024 Malaysian Government Servants Welfare and Sports Council (Maksak) Rugby 10s,
Set to take place in Kelantan from November 14 to 17, the team’s primary goal for the year is to reach the final, after placing third consecutively for the past two years.
“The main target for the year is to make it to the final. We’ve placed third for the past two years, and now we think it is time for us to soar higher than before,” he told Sarawak Tribune at the Song Kheng Hai rugby field last Sunday.
To fine-tune their preparations, Maksak Sarawak had recently played a 10s scrimmage against Kuching Rugby Football Club (KRCF).
“This match was part of our final preparations before heading over to Kota Bharu. It was a good opportunity to assess our gameplay ahead of the tournament,” the coach explained.
While not all players were present due to work commitments, Zulkaranainhisham expressed confidence in the team’s cohesion and fitness.
However, he pointed out that the players must remain focused and keep their eyes on the game.
Despite the evident strength from competing teams such as those from Selangor, PDRM, and Johor, Zulkaranainhisham remained steadfast on the potential of his players.
“As a squad, and individually, they are talented in their own ways. This team boast a wealth of experienced players. Having players who had been with us for the past two years is crucial.
“We know what we are capable of,” Zulkaranainhisham explained.
The team had made only a few changes, with three new players added to the squad to complement last year’s roster.
With a well-prepared and experienced squad, Maksak Sarawak are ready to make a strong push for the final at the 2024 Maksak Rugby 10s in Kelantan.
