KUCHING: The hopes of MAKSAK Sarawak’s sepak takraw team of advancing to the quarter-finals in the sepak takraw national tournament were dashed on Saturday morning as they suffered a 1-2 defeat against Majlis Sukan ATM in their crucial third match of the group stage at the Sultan Abdul Halim Shah Stadium.

The match was a thrilling contest, with each set battling fiercely to secure the win.

Sarawak’s performance in the match was a mix of highs and lows.

In the first regu, they lost the first set 15-17, bounced back to win 15-10, but ultimately fell short in the third set, losing 7-15.

In the second regu, Sarawak won the first set 15-10, but narrowly lost the second set 16-17 before securing a 15-12 victory in the final set.

However, in the third regu, Sarawak struggled and were defeated in both sets, 7-15 and 10-15, leading to their overall loss in the match.

With the loss, Sarawak was unable to secure the points needed to progress to the next stage of the tournament.

The team had entered the match with high hopes of securing a win to confirm their place in the quarter-finals, but despite their efforts, the victory eluded them.

In a statement on MAKSAK Sarawak’s Facebook page after the match, the team showed their resilience and determination, adopting the motto: “Agi Idup Agi Ngelaban” (As long as we live, we fight), which reflects their spirit to keep fighting regardless of the outcome.

This defeat means that Sarawak’s journey in the sepak takraw tournament comes to an end, but the team remains determined to continue developing and improving for future competitions.
