MIRI: A three-day Malaysia Day blood donation campaign will be held here starting from Sept 16 to 18 from 8.30am to 1pm at the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Miri branch Training Institute at Jalan Bulan Sabit.
On the first day, the blood donation campaign is jointly organised by the Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) and MRC Miri branch Donor Recruitment.
The second day is jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Miri Oil Town and NSJA.
As for the third day, it is jointly organised by MRCH, Sarawak Bank Employees Union Northern Region, Persatuan Penganut Dewa Some Shak Lung and NSJA.
MRC Miri Blood Donor Recruitment chairman Karambir Singh stated that this type of collaboration between several organisations is a practical way to organise the life- saving activity.
He said this is the first time NSJA, MRC and the other organisations have combined their resources to hold a three-day consecutive blood donation in conjunction with Malaysia Day.
He also said the Malaysia Day blood donation drive is supported by Miri Hospital Blood Bank and Miri Hospital.
“Several organisations such as the Twin Brothers Patisserie, Shun Shen Lee Trading (Miri) Sdn Bhd, Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad, Premium Food Hunter and Miri City Council are also partially sponsoring the event.
“On Friday (Sept 16), the first 50 successful donor will each receive 2kg Merris pure vegetable oil, white bread,1kg of rice or fresh fruits and recycle beg.
“The second day is partially sponsored by Paris Levain and K.K.H Plumbing and Pump Services.
“On the third day, 5kg bag of rice, refreshments and a Certificate of Appreciation will be given to blood donors,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 15).
He also thanked NSJA members and its president Andy Jong for actively publicising all blood donation campaigns via their respective newspapers.
“NSJA has been giving strong support to many blood donation campaigns and this is a good example for other organisations to follow.
“The campaigns have received encouraging responses from donors and other organisers.
“Kudos to all Miri blood donors for your care and efforts to save lives of those in need of blood,” he added.
