KUCHING: Preparations for the upcoming 2023 National Malaysia Day Celebration at Stadium Perpaduan on Sept 16 are on track.
The Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Julaihi Narawi highlighted the meticulous planning that’s underway. This includes logistics, security, and cultural and entertainment aspects to boost the festivity.
“Through these preparations, we aim for all Malaysians to deeply feel and understand the essence of this day. It’s a day to reflect on the significance of unity and the value of our independence.
“This celebration reminds us of 1963 when Malaya, Singapore, Sabah, and Sarawak united. Even though Singapore parted ways in 1965, the bond between the remaining regions has only grown stronger. It’s essential that everyone, regardless of where they are from – Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, or Sarawak, understand and respect the history behind this merger. Our hope is that this unity story gets passed down to future generations,” said Julaihi during an interview with the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) today (Sept 8).
He also said that the celebration is slated to begin with a preliminary show at 7 pm, followed by the main event at 8.30 pm.
Acting Head of State, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, is set to officiate the event.
Guests of honour include Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, and Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor accompanied by wife Datin Seri Julia Salag.
This year’s theme, ‘MADANI Malaysia: Tekad Perpaduan, Penuhi Harapan’, will be complemented by the Iban slogan ‘Segulai Sejalai’.
