DEBAK: The Federal government needs to translate the spirit of the formation of Malaysia by looking at the needs as well as a more appropriate distribution of allocations to Sarawak.
Deputy Minister for Community Wellbeing Development Mohammad Razi Sitam said, the country now has a rational federal government.
The proof, according to him, is that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob listens to the aspirations of Sarawak and Sabah and responds positively by providing balance in terms of the number of parliamentarians.
“As mentioned by Sarawak’s Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) wishes to preserve the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“And the rationale for the demand for 35% of the 222 parliamentary seats across the country is necessary to balance the powers that be, especially when it comes to upholding the spirit of MA63.
“Thus, in the aspect of allocation distribution, in conjunction with the anniversary commemorating Malaysia’s formation, the Federal government should translate the spirit as a Malaysian Family by considering a fair and impartial distribution of allocations,” he said yesterday in an interview with Suara Sarawak/New Sarawak Tribune.
He explained that Sarawak, as a huge region, still needs more allocation.
“This is the spirit of Malaysia Day that should not be overlooked, especially given Sarawak’s significant contribution to national wealth,” he remarked.
The Saribas assemblyman also advised that Malaysians retain their spirit of solidarity across regions.
“Malaysia’s establishment on September 16, 1963 demonstrates the attainment of the people’s consensus element, which is quite good.
“Who else is going to defend it if not us? Let us keep this atmosphere of peace and harmony going so that the country can progress.
“The spirit of patriotism and love for the country should not be allowed to fade; instead it should always be refreshed with various programmes and activities,” he added.
In conjunction with the commemoration of this historic day, his prayer is for Malaysia to succeed.
Razi also shared about the sacred words of Tun Datuk Patinggi Temenggung Jugah Barieng – a Malaysian is like a sugar cane, sweet in the middle, sweet in the end.
