KUCHING: In the newest World Bank Group report titled ‘Doing Business 2017’, Malaysia is placed as the 23rd most business-friendly country out of 190 countries that were evaluated.

In revealing this Minister for Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, Trade, and Investment Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, pointed out that based on the same report, Malaysia was placed fourth in terms of protection for investors.

“These attractive positions clearly show that the attempt made by the government all this while through the various initiatives have produced favourable results.

“However, we must not be complacent about this achievement as we should synergise our efforts and pool together our resources to further improve our position,” he said.

The minister added that in tandem with the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP), it is time for all organisations in the country to adopt ‘kaizen’ (a Japanese business philosophy of continuous improvement of working practices, personal efficiency, and more) to enhance process efficiency via the Lean Management System.

“Lean refers to the methods and principles which help to identify and reduce waste or non-value added activities through continuous improvement for the good of the customers.

“By having this concept in mind all the time, activities can be implemented effectively in an organisation in order for it to formulate more efficient work processes towards achieving excellence,” he said.

Meanwhile, Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) Board of Director Datuk Abang Haji Abdul Karim Tun Abang Haji Openg added that the main factor that contributes to the success of an organisation is to practise and instil innovation into its working culture.

“Every organisation should implement continuous improvement and innovate their services to ensure that the organisation will be able to adapt to challenges as well as face them,” said Karim.

The seminar, organised by MPC, was attended by more than 200 people from the public and private sector.

Also present were Assistant Minister of Entrepreneur Development Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais and Assistant Minister of Industrial Development (Investment and Promotion) Datuk Haji Julaihi Haji Narawi.
