KUCHING: The demise of Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud marks a significant loss for Malaysians, especially the people of Sarawak, as he played a crucial role in governing and driving the success of Sarawak.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi conveyed his condolences to the former Head of State’s family via a Facebook post this morning (Feb 21), reflecting on cherished memories shared with the late Tun Taib.
“I have many fond memories with the late Tun Pehin Sri Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud. He was approachable and always steadfast in serving the community.
“May Allah SWT accept all of his deeds and place him among the righteous, granting him paradise.
Taib passed away at 4.40 am, aged 87, at a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur today.
In response, the Sarawak government has declared a two-day mourning period (Feb 21 and 22).
During this time, all official functions involving entertainment events will be postponed, and Sarawak flags will be flown at half-mast.
