BUDAPEST (Hungary): The Malaysian Embassy in Hungary hosted an Aidilfitri open house on Saturday (April 27) for some 200 Malaysians, foreign representatives, and local invitees. The event showcased Malaysia’s vibrant multicultural harmony and unity.

Malaysian Ambassador to Hungary Francisco Munis in his message expressed his delight at how the celebration strengthened the bond among Malaysians residing in Hungary as well as between Malaysians and the local Hungarian community. This interaction highlights the importance of cultural understanding and people-to-people relationships.

“It is a blessing for Malaysia and Malaysians that they can celebrate together in harmony not only in Malaysia but also abroad,” he said in a statement made available to Bernama by the embassy.

Munis, who also serves as the accredited ambassador to Slovenia and North Macedonia, said that there are over 200 Malaysians in Hungary, with some also residing in Slovenia and North Macedonia.

Half of the attendees were students, with the remainder consisting of working Malaysians and individuals married to locals.

During the open house, guests were treated to a delightful spread of popular Malaysian dishes such as nasi lemak, rendang, ketupat, lemang, and teh tarik. The selection of these delicacies provided a nostalgic taste of home for Malaysians who have been residing abroad for an extended period.

The event was also attended by the chief executive officer of the Asia College of Exercise Medicine (ACEM) in Malaysia Prof Dr Muhammad Lee Chee Pheng, who received the prestigious Doctor Honoris Causa award from the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to promoting human health and quality of life through exercise.

The award ceremony, which was held in conjunction with HUSS’s 100th anniversary, was held at HUSS from April 24 to 26. – BERNAMA
