KUCHING: Malaysians are starting to embrace and accept Perikatan Nasional (PN) while distancing themselves from Pakatan Harapan (PH).
Political observer Datuk Peter Minos said it is human tendency or nature, of people loving winners and forsaking losers. PN has triumphed and the people are warming to it, and in the process, PH is slowly being shunned.
“As facts get unravelled and PH’s inherent weaknesses as well as failures are exposed, seen and known, Malaysians feel relieved that PN had come about.
“PH’s failures — from deliberately breaking pledges and promises by creating mere excuses, to its inability to solve the many national financial and economic problems and its ineffectiveness in bringing racial and religious cohesion as well as harmony to the country, its indecisiveness in tackling the high and rising cost of living, among others — have been exposed.
“The people feel cheated and have been fooled, hence, anti-PH feelings arise from there,” he stated.
Minos pointed out that PH was initially united because of Najib, 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandals and the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
“These were issues that have angered Malaysians which forced them to embrace PH. But when the issues subsided, there was nothing to hold PH together. PH’s members began to hit and fire at each other and disunity set in and reigned.
“And when former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad refused to give way to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim by not stating clearly the date of transition (of power), internal problems in PH came out to the top and the implosion occurred, finally leading to its downfall and to the rise of PN.
“In short, PH fell due primarily to its inherent internal weaknesses and failures, and not so much of external factors. The resignation of Dr Mahathir as the Prime Minister on Feb 23, precipitated the fall of PH government and subsequent events merely flowed and followed the resignation.
“It is, thus, futile for PH to continue seeking excuses and scapegoats for its failures. Putting the blame on PN and others, or creating theoretical reasons for its fall from power, are academic now and people are tired of hearing them,” he told.
Minos added that Malaysians were now seeking to get back to normalcy and peace of mind to lead their lives while nervously facing the ongoing Covid-19 scare.
He mentioned that they were in no mood to listen to PH’s sob stories or to face another political crisis.
“With the Federal Cabinet installed and the new Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin steadily taking command, Malaysians just want things in the nation to settle down peacefully and harmoniously while nervously facing the Covid-19 scare,” he said.
