KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s volume Index of services rose 7.2 percent to 162.2 points in 2018 as compared to 6.7 percent (151.3 points) the previous year.
The Department of Statistics (DoS) revealed that for the fourth quarter of 2018 (4Q18), the volume index of services registered a growth of 7.2 percent to 167.7 points, when compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the seasonally adjusted volume index of this sector went up by 1.5 percent to 166.3 points in the 4Q18 as compared to the previous quarter.
“The main contributors to the increase in volume index of services were wholesale and retail trade, food and beverages and accommodation segment (8.3%) and information and communication and transportation and storage (7.4 percent),” he said in a statement.
The department also reported that while other services segments grew by 6.4 percent, the main contributor to the increase was the arts, entertainment and recreation sub-sector at 8.9 percent. –Bernama
