KUALA LUMPUR: Malindo Air has launched its inaugural flight to Adelaide, via Denpasar (Bali) today.

Malindo Air chief executive officer Chandran Rama Muthy said Adelaide is its fourth city in Australia after Perth, Brisbane and Melbourne.

“Currently, we operate four weekly flights between Kuala Lumpur and Adelaide, via Denpasar. There will be more plans for Australia as we continue to explore opportunities for more frequencies and new destinations.

“This is in line with our aim to carry more passenger traffic to the respective airports and promote local tourism,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Malaysia Airports group chief executive officer Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin said Malaysia Airports welcomes Malindo Air’s new service to Adelaide via Denpasar, which will definitely strengthen connectivity for both Malaysia and Australia.

“The tourism attractions and business opportunities in Malaysia and Australia will certainly ensure the success of this new service, and we wish Malindo Air all the best on this route,” he said.

He added that Malaysia Airports has and will continue to collaborate with the government to ensure that the airport operator maximises the effectiveness of its marketing initiatives to attract new airlines and establish new routes.

“Malaysia Airports also encourages existing airlines to increase flight frequencies or introduce new routes, as that will provide passengers greater options and connectivity,” he said.

The flights between Kuala Lumpur and Adelaide via Denpasar are operated on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday using a narrow-body Boeing 737-800/900 aircraft, comprising 12 Business Class and 150/168 Economy Class seats.

Promotional one-way fares are from RM679 for Economy Class and from RM2,399 for Business Class.
