PUSA: The Maludam Explore Race 2023 is able to improve ecotourism in the Maludam area, especially the community economy in the area.
Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said Maludam has its own attractions that can be highlighted to the public whether from within or outside the country.
“Maludam is a small district that has various tourist attractions such as Maludam National Park which is famous for monkey species such as Red Banded Langur and Proboscis Monkey.
“Through this event, we will be able to show the uniqueness and beauty of nature and local culture to tourists from within and outside the country,” he said in his speech at the opening ceremony of the programme, recently.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) for cooperating in this programme and explained their efforts in looking after and preserving forests and wildlife in Sarawak, which is important in developing sustainable ecotourism.
Meanwhile, Lingga assemblywoman Dayang Noorazah Awang Sohor in her speech earlier said that several projects are planned and will be carried out in Maludam.
“A large-scale project will be implemented in 2024, which is a flood mitigation project worth RM40 million for the Maludam District.
“At the same time, a drainage project in the Maludam Triso area is also in the planning,” she said.
Dayang Noorazah said these projects will take some time to be completed, however such infrastructure projects are prioritised due to the annual flooding that damages crops and the residences of the local residents in Maludam.
