MIRI: Police detained a man for hitting a security guard at a recreation park at Jalan Kipas here on Friday morning.
The 30-year-old suspect from Pujut 2 was also alleged to have threatened two female cleaning staff from a nearby building.
He has been detained for questioning.
Fortunately, no one was hurt during the incidents, said Miri Police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah when contacted.
The suspect was picked up by the police after he ran away armed with a pair of hair scissors.
While hiding in a room at a building next to the City Fan park on Friday morning, he threatened a cleaning staff with the scissors.
“He also threatened another cleaning staff outside the room with the scissors and told both of them to keep quiet if they did not want to die,” said Lim.
It was learned that, earlier that morning, a woman had a terrifying encounter while walking alone in the park.
She immediately told the park’s security guard about her ordeal, prompting him to check the area.
The incident was reported occurred at 7.45am.
“The security guard eventually found the suspect but was punched on the face when he ordered the man to get out of the area,” said Lim.
The Miri Police chief added the suspect was vandalising facilities at the area when the security found him.
The case is being investigated under Sections 322 and 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt and criminal intimidation.
