MIRI: An elderly man sustained severe injuries following a head-on collision involving a van and a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle in front of a shopping centre at Jalan Merbau, here today.
A spokesman from the Sarawak Fire Department operations centre said they received a distress call around 7am and firemen from Miri station were despatched to the scene.
Upon arriving, the team confirmed the accident happened at the traffic light intersection.
It was reported that the van driver, a 74-year-old man sustained severe injuries while, three other victims in the 4WD, all women only sustained minor injuries.
All of the victims were given early treatment by the emergency medical rescue service (EMRS) personnel before they were taken to Miri Hospital for further treatment.
Before departing to their station, the team carried out flushing works to clean up the spilled oil from the accident.
