MARUDI: A man from Long Laput was killed after he accidentally shot himself while hunting alone in a jungle at Long Lama last Thursday (May 27).
Marudi police chief DSP Jo Hang said the man, identified as Cosmas Jau Mering, aged 37, accidentally dropped his shotgun while climbing a tree. The gun went off and hit his right arm.
“The injured hunter initially managed to call one of his friends living nearby after the incident and the friend rushed him to Long Lama Health Clinic for medical treatment.
“He was then taken to Miri Hospital for further medical treatment by a medicial staff of Long Lama Health Clinic and they reached Miri Hospital around midnight,” Jo said.
However, the man was pronounced dead four hours later on Friday (May 28).
Police have classified the case as sudden death.
