KUCHING: A man and a woman were each fined RM2,800, with a default sentence of three months in prison, at the Magistrates’ Court here, for their involvement in drug abuse.
Zamree, 31, and Najwa, 22, both pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi to charges under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which is punishable under Section 15(1) of the same Act.
If convicted, they could have faced a maximum fine of RM5,000 or up to two years in prison, and they are also required to undergo police supervision for up to three years.
According to the charge sheet, Zamree tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine drugs while being detained at the Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) office around 4.10pm on Nov 16, 2020.
Meanwhile, Noor Najwa tested positive for methylenedioxy-amphetamine (MDA) and 3,4-Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) drugs while being detained at the Sarawak NCID office around 7.30am on June 25 this year.
Based on the case’s details, when the police arrested them, the initial urine tests found that both of them were positive for drugs at the Sarawak NCID office.
The urine samples were sent to the Pathology Department, and the reports confirmed that both of them had tested positive for syabu-type drugs.
ASP Rogayah Rosli prosecuted the case while Zamree and Dayang Noor were not represented by counsel.
