SIBU: An unemployed man was arrested on suspicion of breaking into a 24-hour mobile phone shop in Jalan Bandong and stealing RM380.

Sibu District Police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the 20-year-old suspect was arrested following a police report by a shop assistant.

He said camera footage of the store’s closed circuit showed the suspect entering the store from the front door, opened the counter drawer and fled with the cash. That was in the wee hours of Wednesday.

“According to the complainant, a 23-year-old woman, the theft happened while she was on duty but fell asleep in the shop.

“Suddenly she heard a loud noise on the aluminum sliding door, as if it was kicked,” he said in a statement today.

He said the complainant did not sustain any injuries in the incident which occurred at 4.30am.

“According to the complainant, the suspect often came to purchase mobile reloads,” Stanley said.
