TEBEDU: The General Operations Force (GOF) nabbed a man here for allegedly offering a RM500 bribe to police officers to avoid being arrested last Friday (June 19).
Sarawak GOF brigade commander, SAC Mancha Ata, said the arrest took place at Kampung Entubuh at 11am by a team from GOF 11th battalion.
The team was inspecting his premises after receiving information that it was suspected of being used as a transit point for entry and exit of Indonesians through cross-border rat trails (jalan tikus).
“The team found under the case of the premises owner things belonging to Indonesians. To avoid facing the law, the man attempted to offer a bribe of RM500 to the leader of the team,” he said in a statement.
Mancha stated that the man was arrested under Section 17 (b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, and was handed over to MACC Sarawak for further actions.
The same team also carried out similar operations in Sematan, Lundu and Serian to search places suspected of being used as transit points for the purpose of smuggling illegal immigrants.
“Random checks were carried out on 13 houses and six civilians. No unlawful conduct or activities were detected,” he said.
Mancha stressed that Sarawak GOF brigade would continue its operations, and aggressive actions would be taken to curb cross-border crimes as well as blocking the entry of illegal immigrants to help contain the Covid-19 pandemic in the state.
