MIRI: A man with five criminal records, including drug-related offences and burglary, was arrested on Friday (Feb 18) for breaking into a house at Desa Indah Permyjaya here.

The incident is said to have occurred early this month.

The complainant, a relative of the house owner, lodged a police report after he was informed that the house was broken into, judging from the suspiciously opened front gate and main door.

Preliminary investigation found that there was no one in the house during the break-in.

A 42-inch flat screen TV was also reported missing.

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said the suspect was picked up by Miri Criminal Investigation Department personnel from a rented unit at Tudan Quadruplex Permyjaya here around 1pm.

The team also recovered a flat screen TV, believed to be the missing item.

The suspect is currently being detained at Miri Central Police station for questioning.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for burglary and theft.
