KUCHING: A local man was arrested for filing a false police report regarding a robbery involving two unidentified individuals recently.

The 23-year-old alleged that he fell victim to a motorcycle robbery while waiting at a bus stop along Jalan Bako.

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the supposed incident happened last Friday (Sept 22) at 10am.

“Further investigation revealed that the suspect had concocted the entire incident to cover up his misappropriation of RM1,940 for his personal use.

“The money that was entrusted to him by his employer.

“The suspect resorted to fabricating the robbery report as he was unable to repay the money to his employer,” he said.

As a result, the police opened an investigation paper under Section 182 of the Penal Code for making a false police report.

If convicted, the suspect could face a maximum fine of RM2,000 or up to six months imprisonment, or both.

Ahsmon strongly urged the public to refrain from making false reports as it tarnishes the image of the district regarding the occurrence of crimes.

He added that the police will take stringent action against individuals found guilty of making false reports.
