KAPIT: The local narcotics police have arrested a man who acted suspiciously at Jalan Temenggong Koh (Jalan Wharf) here.
From the man, who is a casual wharf labourer, they seized methamphetamine weighing some 51.20 grammes.
The suspect has been remanded to facilitate police investigation under Section 15(1)(A) Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which provides for a death sentence by hanging or whipping not fewer than 15 strokes.
Kapit police chief, DSP Freddy Bian Stanislaus Bian, today confirmed the arrest of the 29-year-old man who is a porter at Kapit Express Terminal.
A team of narcotics police was patrolling around town about 5pm on Sunday afternoon when they noticed the man who acted suspiciously.
When he saw the policemen approaching, he threw a packet of substances away and fled but was apprehended later.
The police found on him a box of cigarette which contained 51.20g of methamphetamine valued at RM25,600 in the market.
A test later conducted on the suspect found him to be drug positive.
