MIRI: A man from Suai, Niah here has been detained by the police after threatening to burn down a longhouse in Sepupok, Ulu Suai.

Earlier on Sunday (April 17), around 7pm, the man, 21, had walked into a ‘bilik’ of the longhouse and brought away a girl, aged 17.

Brushing aside the girl’s aunt who was at that time in the ‘bilik’, the suspect then brought the teen into his house.

It was believed that the suspect went berserk after the girl’s family managed to bring her back home the same day.

The suspect not only threatened to set the longhouse on fire but also threatened to harm the girl’s family. The girl’s family later lodged a police report.

The suspect was arrested around 4pm on Monday (April 18). The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
