PADAWAN: A 25-year-old man was arrested for alleged involvement in unlicensed lottery sales and online gambling top-up activity last Monday (July 12).

In the 4.15pm operation codenamed ‘Op Dadu’, a Padawan Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team raided a house at Mile 4, Jalan Arang.

District police chief, Supt Aidil Bolhassan during the suspect’s arrest,  two phones believed to be used for illegal lottery sales and online gambling top-up activity were also seized.

“During questioning, the suspect admitted to be engaging in unlicensed lottery sales as well as online gambling.

“The man, who did not have a past record, will be detained in the Siburan police lock-up for further actions,” he told.

The case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(c) and Section 4A(a) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953.

If convicted under Section 4(1)(c), he can be fined up to RM50,000 or  sentenced to a jail term of up to three years.

Under Section 4A(a), the suspect can be fined up to RM200,000 or face a jail term of up to five years  if convicted.
