PANTU: A weekend fishing trip in Kampung Bangkong Asal took a tragic turn as a local man went missing after being attacked by a crocodile yesterday (May 12).

Lawrence Adi Raynold, 32, was reportedly fishing with three of his friends along the banks of Sg Semeruang, Bangkong, around 5 pm when the attack occurred.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Sri Aman station were dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call from the police at 7.30 pm.

The search and rescue (SAR) operation resumed this morning at 9.10 am, involving 36 personnel including firefighters, police, villagers, and Civil Defence Force (APM) members.

The operation was divided into three groups, with one focussing on searching the river and the other two combing the riverbank.

At the time of writing, Lawrence remains unaccounted for.
