KUCHING: A man broke both his legs after falling into a cave while searching for jackfruit with a friend in Pangkalan Baru, Jalan Stephen Yong, here today.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department said they received a distress call about the incident at 12.38 am.

Based on information, the man and his friend were searching for the fruit when they both accidentally slipped into the cave.

The cave’s opening is about 100 metres from the main road.

A team of 10 firemen from the Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Station was rushed to assist.

The injured man was found and given first aid by the fire department’s medical team at 2.30 am.

Given the difficulty of the situation, an additional support was called to assist the rescue operation which began at 9:30 am.

By 11.05 am, both individuals had been safely extracted from the cave and were transported to the hospital for treatment.
