BETONG: A man burned to death in a fire which razed a house at Jalan Perumahan Bebangai yesterday.

Commanding officer Hendery Jugah said they (Bomba) received a distress call on the fire at 5.54pm and deployed seven personnel from the Betong fire station to the scene led by Jusmandi Jemaie.

“The fire had already destroyed 50 per cent of the house’s kitchen area when the team arrived at the scene,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The deceased was discovered lying face down in the toilet.

Investigations revealed that the deceased was a friend of one of the occupants of the house who came to visit — there were also only two occupants at said house.

“One of the occupants — a 39-year-old — suffered second degree burns and was rushed to the Betong Hospital for treatment, while another was unharmed during the incident,” he added.

The fire was brought under control at 6.17pm and the operation ended at 7.45pm.
He noted that the department is investigating the cause of the fire.
