KOTA SAMARAHAN: Police have arrested a local man for lodging a false report regarding a robbery to avoid paying a fine to the National Registration Department (NRD).

Kota Samarahan OCPD DSP Jaimi Husin in a statement, said that the 25-year-old came forward to Asajaya police station to make the report at 12 pm on Friday (July 26).

In his report, he claimed that he had been robbed by four masked men on three motorcycles without license plates.

“He also claimed to have suffered a loss of RM1,000 in cash, an identification card, an Agrobank card and a Class D driver’s license.

“Further questioning found that the crime did not occur, and the man confessed to filing a false police report as he did not want to pay a fine to obtain a replacement identification card at the NRD,” he said.

Jaimi added that the man will be investigated under Section 182 of the Penal Code for providing false information with intent to cause a public servant to use his lawful power to the injury of another person.

He added that strict action will be taken against any individual who lodges false police reports.
