Man busted for smashing windshield in road rage incident

KUCHING: Police arrested a local man for allegedly damaging the windshield of a vehicle following a two-vehicle collision along Jalan BDC last Saturday (Aug 17).

The incident went viral after a 1.51-minute clip on the collision and damages was uploaded on social media.

According to the footage, the suspect had abruptly stopped his vehicle in front of another vehicle after both vehicles collided.

The suspect later scolded the driver, slammed the windows and took a video of the vehicle before punching the windshield of the vehicle.

Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said they received a police report regarding the incident at 10.17 pm on the day of the incident.

“In the report, the complainant reported an act of mischief which caused damage by a man following a two-vehicle accident along Jalan BDC around 10.30 am.

“Acting on information, the 34-year-old suspect was arrested at Jalan Keranji around 7.30 pm on Sunday (Aug 18).

“He will be remanded at the Kuching police lock-up for four days until Aug 22 to facilitate investigations,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonment of up to two years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Mohd Farhan urged the public to channel any information related to the case to the investigating officer Insp Logeswara Tharumally at 018-2914239, the Kuching police operations room at 082-244444 or the nearest police station.
