KUCHING: A local man was charged today (June 15) at the Magistrate’s Court here for allegedly murdering his uncle by stabbing him with scissors on June 3 in Kampung Haji Baki.

No plea was recorded from Mohd Khairulnizam Abdullah, 27, who faces a charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the death penalty or imprisonment for 30 to 40 years with no less than 12 lashes.

He is accused of killing the 55-year-old victim in a house at Kampung Haji Baki between 8.30pm and 8.50pm on June 3.

The court set the next mention date for July 24.

No bail was offered, and the remand was extended until the next mention date.

It is understood that the accused, under the influence of drugs, was furious when the victim reprimanded him for making noise at the back of the house. A fight ensued, resulting in the accused stabbing the victim multiple times with two broken scissors.

The victim sustained injuries to his right chest, left hand, and the left side of his back. He collapsed and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accused has a past criminal record, including injuring his mother and involvement in drug abuse activities.

Prosecuting Officer ASP Arman Ibrahim is handling the case.

The accused is not represented by legal counsel.

The investigation is being managed by Inspector Mohammad Fadini and Assistant Investigating Officer Sergeant Ridvaner Haddi.
