KUCHING: A local man claimed trial in the Sessions Court to exposing his 13-year-old sister to pornographic videos on a phone last Wednesday.
The 33-year-old pleaded not guilty before Judge Musli Abdul Hamid to a charge framed under Section 15(e) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act (SOACA) 2017 and punishable under Section 15 of the same Act.
It provides for up to 10 years imprisonment, or up to RM20,000 fine, or both on conviction.
The man allegedly committed the offence in a village on Jalan Penrissen around 8.30pm on Sept 20.
During the proceedings, Deputy Public Prosecutor Ruvinasini Pandian objected to bail on the grounds that it is a non-bailable offence and also took into account the safety of the girl, who lives in the same house as him.
Musli rejected the accused’s request to be released on bail and ordered him remanded in Puncak Borneo Prison until the case is over.
The court set case management for Oct 24.
The accused, who attended the proceedings yesterday, was not represented by counsel.
