MUKAH: A chief supervisor of a company here was conned of RM210,850 in an online deal to buy a luxury vehicle.
The 37-year-old victim lodged a police report yesterday after he was asked to make payments but did not receive the Toyota Vellfire MPV as promised.
Mukah OCPD DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the victim had come across the advertisement on Facebook on May 25.
“The Facebook page ‘Thailand Imported Vehicle’ was offering imported vehicles at a much lower price.
“Interested to buy a Toyota Vellfire priced at just RM33,000, the victim then contacted the person via WhatsApp as provided in the ad.
“The victim was then instructed to make several payments, including for delivery charges, Customs tax, matters involving Road Transport Department and so on,” DSP Muhamad Rizal elaborated.
By then, the victim had made payments amounting to RM210,850 in 21 transactions to 11 bank accounts from May 30 to July 2.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
