BINTULU: A local man has been detained by police for injuring two people with a sharp weapon after committing a robbery at a supermarket.
Bintulu OCPD Supt Batholomew Umpit stated that the man was detained on Dec 1 at a supermarket area in Bintulu town.
“Further investigation of the incident found that the suspect was at the supermarket and then attempted to steal a few items before he ran away.
“A worker from the supermarket tried to stop the suspect from leaving but was able to get out of the premise,” he said.
As the suspect ran out, two other workers chased him down until they caught up and stop him at a public recreational park in front of the supermarket.
The suspect then took out a knife and swung the knife towards the workers, causing injuries to both of them while struggling to pin down the suspect.
“The suspect then was detained by the police. Both the workers including the suspect were then transported to Bintulu Hospital for their injuries.
“We also found out that the suspect has 10 outstanding priors, comprise of nine criminal records and one for drug abuse in Sibu and Kapit districts,” said Batholomew.
The suspect has been detained under Section 324 of the Penal Code and is being remand for four days to help with the investigation. – PDRM Bintulu Facebook
